Anatomy of a Trade Show Booth, Part 2

Tadeshow Next ExitLast time, we looked at some of the numbers and tips about what goes into the design and planning of a trade show exhibition booth.

However, as we all know, there’s so much more to it than just that.

This time, let’s have a look at some good strategy at what will drive future clients to your booth, and just how you can keep them there.

Design 101

What you really want to do is stand out from the crowd.

Before you can wow them with the greatest sales pitch they have ever heard about how extraordinary your product or service will be you have to catch their eye.

The smart design decision is to plan around your logo. This is your branding, after all.

Three factors to consider when planning the design of your booth are:

  1. Color- Set the mood of your company with a harmonious color palette. Keep it simple, too many colors involved and you run the risk of a visual overload and ruining a professional and crisp aesthetic.
  2. Graphics- Consistency is key, so include graphics from your promotional materials to maintain consistent branding.
  3. Lighting- Since you can’t have someone around visually directing traffic, this is where proper lighting comes into play. Use lighting to guide visitors to key focal points within your booth, whether it’s key sales points or graphics of your product or services.

The Build

From the ground up, the materials used for your trade show display say a lot about you.

Materials such as white fiberglass flooring give your trade show booth a clean look. Not only that, but they reflect light, which will help keep your booth shining bright and stand apart from your competition.

While your goal is to show the world what your team of rockstars can do on the sales floor, your trade show booth shouldn’t look like a Pink Floyd concert. Keep your lighting minimal and to focus their attention, not distract them towards a thousand different places.

Overall, remember to use eco-friendly materials. This creates a lasting impression that you are a business that cares about the environment.

The All-Important Swag

Let’s be honest. The reason that most people spend hours and hours walking convention hall floors is for the swag.

What shouldn’t be underestimated is just how good of a job at marketing swag will do. Make good quality swag products and they will continue to be used and seen by your visitors repeatedly, keeping your name fresh in their mind.

Items such as coffee tumblers, BPA-Free water bottles, and pens are great swag items. Not only are they useful, but a necessity in daily life. Reusable items such as the water bottle or coffee tumbler also reduce the amount of plastic and cardboard at trade shows, giving you more eco-friendly street cred. If your business does end up using a considerable amount of cardboard, either in the office or at your trade booth, you could always buy or hire vertical waste balers from phs Wastekit in order to help manage this waste better. Finding a good supplier for custom items is also important – the quality of the items reflects your brand. Consider looking into well-established providers for these goods, such as trusted Corporate gifts company Siegel’s, or perhaps look into a local business to help foster a co-operative business relationship.

Another great tactic is to have a game that visitors can play. Have them sign up to play the game, this way, you can lead capture their information. Make it relevant to your industry and easy to play and offer real prizes for winners.
